Let's Play a game of TAG

Okay I have been "Tagged" by Kimber..so that means I have to post 7 Random things about myself. So here goes ( although since I can't type 96 wpm, it will take me longer than Kimber )

1. I have collected miniature rocking chairs since I was a little girl. I got my first one at age 7 and have received one, or more, every year since. My memaw was the BEST at finding them, so most came from her. Here's' a picture of some. The tiny quilts and cushions were made by my memaw for my chairs. The largest one is actually my rocking chair when I was a little girl..see the tiny one down front? Ain't it cute!!
2. My husband and I started dating almost 5 years ago..married just over 2 years ago...but we have known each other since we were 15. His younger brother was in Band with me in high school.

3. We have a new couch..it is 40 years old. It was my grandmother's and I HAD TO HAVE IT..because its the BEST couch EVER to take a nap on. We call it THE MAGIC COUCH. We did decide to slipcover it..but it still sleeps the BEST!!! Sunday afternoon naps are even better now!!

4. My first job ever was doing singing telegrams as Little Orphan Annie. I think I only did it once and I remember riding the float for the fair parade. "Tomorrow, tomorrow, I'll Love ya Tomorrow!! Its only a DAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYyy AAAAAAAAAAAWAAAAYYYYYY"
(oh and the funny thing..I don't sing well)

5. One year in college I had 9 different jobs. All part-time and many at the same time. My mom did NOT have fun doing my taxes the next year!!

6. I just learned to crochet this past fall and I love it. I am actually in "yarn withdrawals" now because I have not purchased any yarn recently!!

7. I really need/want a pedicure right now!!! I mean right NOW!! Wishing I could skip out on my class and go to the spa...ahhhhh

Hope you have had fun reading my "randomness"!!!
So now I need to TAG....Sarah, Charlie & Marianne, Jeff & Shelby, & Stephanie B. & Stephanie H.

Well its Wednesday

Nothing dramatic or wild..just Wednesday. It has been so long since I have posted anything and usually I have pictures...but today I am just "gabbin'"

Recently a friend of mine, a fellow blogger, found this blog www.cfhusband.blogspot.com and I have been reading it almost every day. It really is a blessing to read. Tricia, Nate and Gwyneth have a great story..take time to read it..if you can.

Okay..now to switch modes. Every start writing a word..and its a word you have written about a thousand times...but when you write it suddenly it looks totally wrong? I send about 30 emails a day for whatever reason. Today I have NOT been able to type/spell to save my life..nothing seems to look right..guess its a good thing for spellcheck.

Well my break is over and I really must get back to grading videos. My students signed the National Anthem last week....so now I have 170 videos to grade. Woo Hoo!

Hope whenever you read this you are having a great day!!

Another Year!!

Wow it really is amazing how quickly time flies. I was recently chatting with a former co-worker and we started talking about "how many years since"..work, kids, marriages, etc. It is truly amazing how quickly life travels. I know we stay rather busy with everything and we don't even have kids yet! I can only imagine how much more quickly time will fly when that day comes.
I guess all of this comes to my mind since Brian and I just recently celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. 2 YEARS!! Wow!! Just can't believe it has been 2 years already. Just last night a friend of ours tried to tell us it could only have been 1 year..not 2 !!
God has been so good to us. Believe me when I say that back in high school (Brian and I have known each other that long) there is no way either one of us would have looked at each other and said, " I think I'll marry him/her one day!" We were pretty much polar opposites, still are in a lot of ways...but God truly guided our paths (whether we knew it or not) to one another.
And in honor of our 2 years of marriage..I think I will finally send my wedding dress off to be cleaned and preserved..don't you think 2 years is long enough to wait on that one :-)
It is in the box and ready to be shipped!
Now maybe we should get a few wedding pictures framed too ! Smile!
Here's a picture of us at our anniversary dinner at The Keg..Yummy!!!

Oh and a few from the 6th Floor Museum. We spent Saturday down at the West End with my in-laws. We toured the 6th Floor Museum and the Holocaust Museum and then grabbed a bite at Gators! That was all part of our anniversary fun!!

Ready for the Tour!! 6th Floor Museum

Happy Birthday Memaw!!

Well it has been awhile since I have posted anything..and I thought today...My Memaw's birthday would be a good day!!

Today my grandmother would have turned 84. Now she would have spent a quiet day, probably quilting, and the only change would have been a few more cards in the mailbox and the phone ringing a bit more. She never made a big deal about her day, she was a quiet lady. But today she gets to celebrate in Heaven and I am sure it is not a quiet day of quilting. :-)

Almost 2 months ago my Memaw, Jean Prior, went home to be with the Lord. She was one of my best friends and I love her dearly. She loved her family, especially all the "greats" she had (that is how she referred to her great-grandchildren)..all 4 were very special to her. She never thought she would live long enough to have grandchildren, let alone Great-Grandchildren.

My Memaw spent 23 years as a nurse before retiring and picking up a needle and thread. That is when all the quilting began. Years ago she decided to give up smoking, so she put down the cigarettes and picked up her Fat Quarters. Now everyone in the family, and a few friends, have a Memaw Quilt. I will forever treasure each of my quilts.

She was the rock of our family and we all miss her very much. She had the best sense of humor, very witty and very dry. She loved to play cards when the family got together. Our vice was always Liver Pool Rummy, and she usually ended up quietly winning in the last hand.

She always had good advice. She was known for telling us all to "sock a little away" when it came to money. She was such a blessing in my life. She leaves behind an amazing legacy of family.

Last Christmas we had all the festivities at our house. Mom, Don and Memaw came from Texarkana to our house. Traveling for Memaw was not high on her list of things she enjoyed, but she packed her bags and came on. We had such a good time together. She helped me cook in my "2 butt kitchen" as she called it and we just had the best time. I look back now and am so blessed that we had that time together.

I miss you so much Memaw, but I know you are with our sweet Lord and I will see you again one day. Happy Birthday Memaw, you 'da best!

Thanks for letting me share this moment with you on our blog.

Here's a picture from last Christmas, it is a favorite of mine.

A New Hobby

So..do you ever get bored? Wish you knew how "to do" something new? Well I had one of those moments...last summer!! I had been thinking about learning how to crochet..so I bought a skein of yarn..one for practicing on. Well that little skein of brown yarn sat in a bag..until October!! Many of you know that my grandmother recently passed away...the month before she passed we spent many hours at the hospital with her. I decided that practicing my crocheting would be a good thing to pass the hours..so I picked up my "K" hook and I began. After lots of practice, hints from my mom, Connie and whoever was around and knew how to crochet...I decided I had practiced ENOUGH!! So the gray scarf you see below...my first creation! Not too shabby if I do say so myself. I have since made 2 baby blankets and am working on another scarf.

It has been nice to create something..to see something transform from nothing much..so something with a purpose and a use!! It has been fun. I am not a pro..but I do plan to pick up a book soon and learn how to read a pattern. I have to learn how to make hats...at my husband's request..next. I don't think I will venture past simple blankets, scarfs, afghans..etc..but I am really enjoying my new hobby!! It's not a great view..but below is the baby blanket I made for my new newphew...Bryce! It matches his room!
