Happy Birthday Memaw!!

Well it has been awhile since I have posted anything..and I thought today...My Memaw's birthday would be a good day!!

Today my grandmother would have turned 84. Now she would have spent a quiet day, probably quilting, and the only change would have been a few more cards in the mailbox and the phone ringing a bit more. She never made a big deal about her day, she was a quiet lady. But today she gets to celebrate in Heaven and I am sure it is not a quiet day of quilting. :-)

Almost 2 months ago my Memaw, Jean Prior, went home to be with the Lord. She was one of my best friends and I love her dearly. She loved her family, especially all the "greats" she had (that is how she referred to her great-grandchildren)..all 4 were very special to her. She never thought she would live long enough to have grandchildren, let alone Great-Grandchildren.

My Memaw spent 23 years as a nurse before retiring and picking up a needle and thread. That is when all the quilting began. Years ago she decided to give up smoking, so she put down the cigarettes and picked up her Fat Quarters. Now everyone in the family, and a few friends, have a Memaw Quilt. I will forever treasure each of my quilts.

She was the rock of our family and we all miss her very much. She had the best sense of humor, very witty and very dry. She loved to play cards when the family got together. Our vice was always Liver Pool Rummy, and she usually ended up quietly winning in the last hand.

She always had good advice. She was known for telling us all to "sock a little away" when it came to money. She was such a blessing in my life. She leaves behind an amazing legacy of family.

Last Christmas we had all the festivities at our house. Mom, Don and Memaw came from Texarkana to our house. Traveling for Memaw was not high on her list of things she enjoyed, but she packed her bags and came on. We had such a good time together. She helped me cook in my "2 butt kitchen" as she called it and we just had the best time. I look back now and am so blessed that we had that time together.

I miss you so much Memaw, but I know you are with our sweet Lord and I will see you again one day. Happy Birthday Memaw, you 'da best!

Thanks for letting me share this moment with you on our blog.

Here's a picture from last Christmas, it is a favorite of mine.

Your tribute to your grandmother was nice and very touching. Sorry for your loss.

Glad to hear that life is treating you well. Concerts, family, and fun is what I hear via the blog.
